The Independent People with Disabilities organisation set up in February 2012 is the "only " democratic, independent, grass roots, cross disability body to represent and advocate on behalf of "all people with disabilities" in the counties Westmeath, Longford and Roscommon. It is hoped that the Organisation will grow into a National Organisation.

About us

IPWD are a charitable organisation mainly operated by Volunteers. It is the "only" independent, cross disability body to represent and advocate on behalf of "all people with disabilities" in Westmeath, Longford and Roscommon and we are hoping to grow into a National Organisation.

The Strategy for Equality was drawn up and launched by people with disabilities in 1993.

It includes 402 recommendations we are campaigning for the implementation of those 402 recommendations.
Through representation on both "local & national" decision making bodies we influence policy & decision making in matters that affect the lives of all people with disabilities in Ireland.
We advocate for their rights and promote disability awareness within our organisation and in the wider community.
Promote self-advocacy and self-determination for people with disabilities.
We strive for equity in education, training and employment and for justice & equality for all people with disabilities.
We work with other disability organisations on matters that concern them for the common good.
We provide advice from our office in Athlone.
We provide disability awareness training in local educational establishments.
We work on behalf of individual people with disabilities. through research and guidance on specific issues that they are encountering.
